Giving Nurses More Time with Patients

When relying on pre-printed paper forms, nurses at Olmsted Medical Center (OMC) sometimes ran down to patient registration to get forms for newly admitted patients. They also had to remember which forms were needed for each patient, and performed many manual forms processing tasks, taking them away from patients.

The Intelligent Forms Suite (IFS) from Access, the world’s leading provider of electronic forms (e-forms) management, automation & workflow software, eliminated this inefficiency. Now, each care area receives a patient face sheet, wristband, and labels. They then print their own customized forms packet right in the care area. Seamless integration between Access IFS and OMC’s McKesson Series health information system pre-fills patient demographics on each form, eliminating the need for the stamp machines. Access IFS also enables OMC to quickly create new forms and update existing ones.  The results? More time with patients, lower costs & increased productivity.

Business Problems
  • Stamp machines that are expensive to maintain used to apply patient information to forms
  • Adding/updating a form requires staff members to reassemble forms packets
  • Clinical staff members spend time manually processing forms
  • Nurses must remember what forms packet applies to each patient, choosing from many options
Solutions
  • Patient forms pre-filled with patient demographics through native integration with McKesson Series HIS
  • Clinical forms packets automatically updated when a new/updated form is published
  • Forms automation gives clinicians more time with patients
  • Burden moved from staff to software – the correct forms packet is automatically printed
