Boosting Patient Safety with Access Solutions
Norman Regional Health System, the leading healthcare organization in south central Oklahoma, needed a way to overcome the time and cost inefficiencies of managing paper forms. After evaluating multiple products, the IS team selected Patient Flow System from Access for use in patient registration, clinical areas, HIM and patient billing.
Before using PFS, registering patients was a time-consuming manual process. With the Access system, a customized packet of forms and barcoded wristbands that increase patient safety are produced the instant patient registration is complete, and registrars never leaves patients to look for forms. The Access suite also enables staff on clinical forms to access patient information immediately, rather than waiting for hard copies to arrive from the registration desk.
To further improve information sharing across the hospital, Norman Regional is using Access’s Image Portal, which ports forms directly into the Meditech Scan Archive (SCA) document management system. As the forms are auto indexed, there’s no need for time-consuming, error-prone manual data entry. In addition to improving patient safety , speeding registration and improving information sharing between departments, PFS is delivering substantial return on investment at Norman Regional, with $380,000 saved in just one year.
