Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital (SVMH) has replaced the financial, productivity and environmental costs of pre-printed forms with the efficiency of printing forms on demand using Access Intelligent Forms Suite (IFS). When barcoded forms are printed in SVMH’s patient registration area or on clinical forms, Access IFS pulls data from MEDITECH and uses it to pre-populate each form. This eliminates redundant patient effort with admissions packets. With Access IFS, clerks can use any station and output pre-filled and barcoded forms on any printer. Upon scanning, MEDITECH Scanning and Archiving (SCA) uses the barcode to interface the forms into the correct electronic medical record (EHR).
Access IFS is also delivering time and cost savings on clinical floors at SVMH, where it is used to manage 68 order sets and will be rolled out by at least 50 more by the end of this year. Nurses print order sets on demand using Access EFR, with barcodes applied and patient data pre-populated. This eliminates the inconsistencies of pre-printed sets and the time nurses used to spend managing paper stock.
